To come up with a good web design, a web designer won’t just sit down and automatically start on his project. It would take him or her time to gather information that will help him complete the project. He has to undergo a research process that will determine the success or downfall of the project.

If you are one web designer who always gets lost when web design project knocks on your door, here are some guidelines you can follow to be able to come up with a successful web design project.

Gather client details. It is important to get the nature of the company, client preferences, target audience and platform. By gathering these, it would be easier for you to decide what style you’d use for your design. You’ll be able to come up with a strategy to carry out your client’s vision.

Think of an appropriate style. Once you have a clear understanding of the company, you will now be able to decide on which style to use. Sometimes the client will want a specific style, so you don’t have to think hard. But if the client leaves the decision to you, you better be prepared to squeeze those creative juices to come up with something fresh, interesting, and relevant to the company.

Spend time thinking about the color themes. The use of colors is an important aspect of the whole design process. Colors are great tools to attract visitors to come to the site so it’s best to come up with the most effective hues. You can always ask the client if they have a specific color scheme in mind.

Use the right photos. It’s a no-brainer. Photos contribute a lot to a web design’s effectiveness. Basically, there are two sources of photos in the Internet: free and paid stock photo sites. Free stock photos are, obviously, free; though they are limited unlike paid photos. But it would be better if your client has their own photo catalogue.

Look for inspiration and references. When nothing is coming to you, you may want to search for company websites that has the similar background. See how their sites are made. Take inspiration from them. But make sure you don’t copy!

Web design projects are not as easy as they look. To be able to do them effectively, gather all necessary information and start with the basics. Be serious about it and work hard.
