How To Breed Dogs

Filed under: Pets — Regine Hehn @ 3:06 am

Perhaps due to their fierce loyalty to their masters dogs are referred to as man’s best friend. As dogs have been tamed around 15,000 years ago, it makes the dog an ideal pet. There are numerous breeds of dogs such the Terrier and the Mastiff for example in addition to dog types. These two terms should not be used interchangeably as dog type means to classify the animals by the role it performs. Breeding dogs is the practice of allowing specially selected specimens to mate in order to preserve or create certain qualities or traits.

The qualities of the puppies are left for nature to decide when dogs reproduce without human intervention. Thus, many domestic dog owners would be breeding dogs to obtain an improved new generation of dogs. However, breeding dogs is a quite tough job. One needs to have a rather comprehensive knowledge about the genetics of the dog, health and its intended purpose in order to be successfully breeding dogs. In addition, dog breeders normally register the birth of puppies in stud books of associations such as kennel clubs, where the data regarding the dog including, the dog’s lineage and special achievements are entered. The American Kennel Club (AKC) is one such famous association.

Properly maintaining data about dogs is vital for breeding dogs. Once an owner has information regarding the dog, he/she could study them and figure out what qualities could be expected and what should be avoided. The dog breeder may also have to determine whether to inbreed or to outcross. In addition, there are certain rules and regulations that have to be adhered to when breeding dogs. According to the breed, kennel club and country these regulations may vary. Normally, the rules are designed for the betterment of a specific breed or a few dog breeds and dog breeders have to follow the rules and regulations of an organization to be recruited in their breed programs. Different test might have to be done in addition to come to a decision regarding the health condition and qualities of the dog in question in accordance with these regulations and an evaluation by and expert breeder might also be necessary.

Although breeding dogs is a very famous thing, there are specific groups who resist and condemn the practice. Animal rights groups charge that most breeders are merely concerned about the profit and state that such individuals have no regard of the wellbeing of the animal and thus breeding dogs for purpose of selling is unethical. In addition inbreeding has also been criticized as this may cause the natural hereditary disorders of the dogs to continue into new generations.

Thus, breeding dogs could be considered a very delicate matter. A comprehensive knowledge is required by anyone who wishes to perform it.

Fish Tank Cleaning

Filed under: Pets — Roshan Goodman @ 3:10 am

Cleaning your fish tank is task that must be done every few weeks or so until your tank is established. Once established, your tank will only need to be cleaned a few times a month. If you do clean your tank right the process can be very easy or difficult. The size of your tank can depend on how long it takes to clean. The bigger the tank and more decor is the, the harder it will be to clean.

When cleaning a tank, changing the filters is the first step. If you have a bio filter, or power filter changing the filters is a breeze. Just change the cartridge and place a new one in the filter. A under gravel filter is another story. You must remove all the plants, decor and accessories. Then you must pull it out from under the gravel to clean. These filters work very well in keeping debris lower levels, but are a hassle to clean the tank.

Once the filters are cleaned, replace them with new ones. If you have an underground filter do not replace it back in the tank yet. If you have an established tank then leave the plants and decor, even if they have algae on them. Black and smaller algae are vital for a healthy tank and should be left on the decor and accessories. If you do not have an established tank or smaller tank, (ten gallon or smaller) then wash off all the plants and decor. If you have real plants do not wash them. Washing live plants can damage or kill them; the best choice is to leave them in the tank.

After the accessories, decor and plants have been washed do not place them back in the tank yet. The next step is to siphon the tank. Siphon no more than one third of the water out of the tank. If there is still debris at the bottom of the tank fill it with water and re siphon until all debris is gone. If you have an established tank then only siphon out some of the debris and leave a little in the gravel.

When replacing the water only use soft water so the fish do not die of shock. Soft water is water without minerals. Tap water or filtered water is considered soft water. After the water has been replaced remember to not fill the tank too high because, the plants, decor and filters have to still be added.

Replace the under gravel filter if you have one. Also consider in investing a power filter, this will make your life a lot easier. Then replace the plants and decor. You’re all done, and now your tank is clean. Remember that cleaning a tank can be traumatizing for the fish, so they might be timid for a while after the clean.

The Importance Of Training Your Dog

Filed under: Pets — Don De Good @ 3:07 am
by Don De Good

Are you concerned that training you dog will break the bond that you two have built? Do you just accept the fact that you have to keep your dog locked up because of aggressive behavior toward visitors, including your four year old’s friends? Do you also accept the aggravating howling and moaning when you take your dog for a walk? Is all of this actually acceptable behavior for a dog? I don’t think so I hate to break it to you, but even dogs have an expectation of being mannerly. The people suffering through your dog’s shenanigansdo not share your opinion that it’s cute when he climbs all over them, or damages doors.

You may find it difficult to be the voice of authority with your dog, and I can understand your feelings. Dog ownership does not make you a whip cracking tyrant, and it is a pitiful thought to think that you are the one who must teach your pet who’s in charge.

Your dilemma is that you have a misconception about what dog training really is. When we speak about dog training, we are not telling you to try to teach your dog to become human, to submit to human rules. Training is not an exercise to teach your dog that you are superior. What you are trying to accomplish through training your dog, is to improve his approachability in social situations, and enhance the bond that you two already share.

You may be wondering, “How will this truly impact my life with my pet”? This is why it is important! The bulk of our lives are spent at work, drinking our lattes, in front of the computer screen. The short amount of time we are able to spend with our loved ones and pets is often merged with a social activity. On beautiful nights after work we go for a stroll in the nearby park, or down the road to watch the latest blockbuster at our friend’s house. When our dogs behave poorly, we are hesitant to take them along on these occasions. We proceed to leave our pet at home more and more, until finally, it ceases to be a part of our lives.

Much like people, animals experience feelings of sadness, loneliness, and depression when they feel deprived of attention from you and being left to sit alone in the dark most nights.

Although you may think that training will be dreadful for your dog, you are creating a much worse situation for your pet by avoiding it. With training, you will be able to bring your pet along so that you can both enjoy the companionship.

Obedience training is a means of letting your dog cope better with it’s immediate environment. It grants every dog an easier life and makes them easier to live with. Training your dog will give you more opportunity to spend more time with your beloved pet, no matter where you are going and who you are going with.

So get in their and give your dog a nice pat and take it out for training. A few magic words like ‘heel’, ‘down’, ’stay’, ‘come’ and ’sit’, will change your relationship with your favorite companion forever. Good luck.

Sources Of Printable Dog Food Coupons

Filed under: Pets — Moses Wright @ 3:06 am

Coupons can be a great way to save money. Dog owners can save on their dog food costs by using printable dog food coupons.

A few popular retailers occasionally have printable dog food coupons available on their websites. One retailer that sometimes has printable dog food coupons is Target.

The dog owner should consider that any coupons printed from a retailer’s website is likely to only be able to be used at one of that retailer’s stores. The dog owner may be able to look at the current sales circular on the retailer’s website which could include a sale on dog food. Finding dog food on sale can sometimes save the dog owner just as much money as if they found dog food coupons.

Dog food manufacturers are an excellent source for printable dog food coupons. Some dog food manufacturer’s websites do not have printable coupons, but will send you coupons if you request them by filling out an online form for their current coupon offer.

When looking for dog food coupons, dog owners should check both the websites for a dog food manufacturer and the dog food brands that they manufacture. The manufacturer’s website and the websites for their brands often have different dog food coupon offers.

While looking for dog food coupon offers, the dog owner may find offers for trials of new dog food. When feeding a dog a trial size packet of new dog food, do not replace the dogs meal of their usual food with a sample.

Sudden changes in the dog’s food can cause the dog to get sick. Half of the dog food sample can be given with some of the dog’s regular food. The dog’s usual food should be at least half of the meal when dog food from a dog food sample is added.

Printable coupon providers are websites that offer a collection of printable coupons for their viewers. Users of these websites are able to select the coupons that they would like to print. One such printable coupon provider that sometimes has coupons for pet supplies including dog food is Coupons.com.
