Goodbye to dealers at Excalibur’s poker room

“It’s a strange day to be alive.” This adage has become cliché but it rings true when looking at the current state of the poker industry – and the world for that matter. We have poker bots beating top human professionals, live dealers in online casinos and now Excalibur has decided to use only automated tables for its poker room. The play will be similar to that seen in online poker tournaments, but the players will be seated at the same table.

Doing away with chips, cards and dealers, Excalibur’s poker room will be equipped with just twelve automated tables that keep track of chip counts, pot sizes and deals cards electronically. The table is called the PokerPro, which was created by PokerTek, and it will be the new face in a changing industry.

“I’m excited to see the turnout,” said Neil Bard, Excalibur’s floor manager. “We are going to have several famous poker pros come to help launch the tables.”

The automated tables increase the number of Texas Hold’em hands played by 50% and Omaha hands by 100%, which is the biggest asset of the digital machine. Many are speaking out against the machines, however, saying that it defeats the purpose of going to a casino.

This will be a huge change in the way poker is played and how people view the game, attracting new players and losing some – which is why it is such interesting poker news . The advantages are just too great for casino operators to turn away from, which is why many casinos are incorporating them into their poker rooms, but none are completely doing away with their conventional tables like Excalibur.
